I read many biological journal articles in graduate school. Genetics was my primary focus, but I also read a good number of articles in other biological sciences. Virus transmission and behavior have always fascinated me and lead me to spend long periods of time combing through research papers trying to better understand these tiny alien-like lifeforms.
The Coronavirus has taken the internet by storm and more cases are documented every day. It has a very long incubation time (14 days) with little to no symptoms. The World Health Organization (WHO) is going to release a recommendation this morning as to whether a global emergency will be declared and hopefully communicate more scientific information so people on Earth can better understand this new virus.
The main point I want to make in this post is very simple, but instantly rejected by most people: the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and WHO are forced to withhold information about a viral disease (Coronavirus in the case) because complete transparency about the scientific truth will cause a surge in the mental disease known as racism. This is a controversial point, but I think it is becoming obvious in this case as we see disgusting examples of racism already spreading throughout the internet. This is not the only virus that has lead to discrimination where information is obviously withheld.
So here we are in 2020, humans having to hide information from other humans to prevent psychological harm (which can be completely prevented – racism is a completely curable disease) at the expense of additional physiological harm and ignorance. Scientific information that could lead to viral disease prevention cannot be communicated because adult human beings are mean and harmful. Really sad guys. I know that I would really like to know all the facts, but I do not want people to suffer additional painful discrimination because a bunch of idiots can’t help themselves.
Please stop denying this reality and pretending like it is a wild conspiracy. If you want to know the facts, be a decent human being instead of attacking other people out of fear so you can ‘feel better’ so the truth can be understood by all.
